What is proton pump inhibitor?
Proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) are medicines that work by reducing the amount of stomach acid made by glands in the lining of your stomach.
Highly effective in:
- Erosive Esophagitis
- Acid Peptic Disorder
- Duodenal Ulcer
- Gastric Ulcer
- Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease
- Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome
Erosive Esophagitis
Acid reflux disease causes acid to back up into the esophagus. Over time, this causes tissue damage in the lining of the esophagus, resulting in a condition called erosive esophagitis(EE).
Acid Peptic Disorder
Acid peptic disorder – commonly called APD – includes a number of conditions. All these conditions are the result of damage from acid and peptic activity in gastric secretions. APD occurs when the acid starts irritating the inner cells (mucosal layer) of the stomach. Acid peptic disorder mostly affect the esophagus, stomach, and duodenum.
Duodenal Ulcer
A duodenal ulcer is an ulcer that occurs in the lining in the part of the small intestine just beyond the stomach (the duodenum). An ulcer in the lining of the stomach is called a gastric ulcer.
Gastric Ulcer
Stomach ulcers, also known as gastric ulcers, are open sores that develop on the lining of the stomach. Ulcerscan also occur in part of the intestine just beyond the stomach. These are known as duodenal ulcers. Both stomach and duodenal ulcersare sometimes referred to as peptic ulcers.
Zollinger–Ellison syndrome is a rare condition in which one or more tumors form in your pancreas or the upper part of your small intestine (duodenum). These tumors, called gastrinomas, secrete large amounts of the hormone gastrin, which causes your stomach to produce too much acid.
